It's really annoying when trying to slice of left arms, and you slice right through the arm but it doesn't trigger it to drop. This one is a very minor complaint, but the cutting system is extremely finicky at times. Most enemies in this game are very fast and quick to attack, so being stuck in a slow animation just makes you a sitting duck most times (The Rocket Launchers are the worst, you might as well have a sign on you that says 'Free Hit' since it forces you into a super slow reload animation after using one). They needed to make executing these sub-items much faster, to make most of them be of any practical use inside battle. The main problem is that they are just way too slow to use. Sub-weapons are not very practical or useful in combat, barring a few like the E.M. I feel like you should reward the player for going out of their way to find a combat section with items and such, not penalize them in rank because they missed an obscure area or didn't backtrack to a passed area where there would be no need to go back to otherwise.
It's not as egregious as it can be in Bayonetta, but it's still irritating going through the entire level thinking you did all encounters, but find that you missed some encounters somehow and causes your overall rank to drop. My issue isn't with how ranking works but the fact that some combat sections are missable altogether, which in turns causes your rank to tank.
To be fair, this is something that's common to Platinum games like Bayonetta, but I also had a problem with it there too. Now this one I could be wrong on, but anytime I've done all stealth in a section, it never pops a ranking, but when I go back and fight normally, I always got one. It's almost like you skipped the segment altogether, which tanks your ranking for the level. It seems like doing stealth in an enemy segment doesn't seem to trigger a ranking. Not sure why they even bothered with a Stealth mechanic, it feels practically useless in this game because the game practically punishes you for using it. I get they were intending for the player to be more aggressive, hence the lack of a dodge, but I feel like it was needed with the other problems already present, to help mitigate the feeling of taking damage unfairly at times. It also doesn't help that there's no dodge function to help you maneuver if you are about to get hit by an enemy off camera and certain enemies have quick grab attacks that make it practically impossible to escape if it's coming from an enemy you can't directly see. Due to the camera, seeing everyone around you is harder than it ever should be. Speaking of combat, it just doesn't work very well for fighting multiple enemies. The lock-on sets the camera to awkward perspectives sometimes that makes it hard to keep an eye on everything going on, and even makes it hard to get an angle on what direction you need to parry even when it's just against one enemy Outside of combat, it's fine but in combat it's atrocious. Almost all of my issues are gameplay related, everything else is still as good as I remember (Presentation, graphics, story, action sequences are all still great even by today's standards) The most glaring issues I have are I imagine I either ignored some of it's problems initially because of my hype for the game back then, or that some of the issues were more common to action games at that time, but either way, this game hasn't aged well in quite a few areas. I figured I'd have some fun with it again, but boy, was I mighty disappointed that my nostalgia of this game does not hold up. Played it on release years ago and absolutely loved it then but haven't played it since.
#CAMERA METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE PC FOR FREE#
Got Revengeance for free recently and decided to give it a playthrough again with all the extra free time I got lately. This might not be a very popular opinion, but here goes anyways.
